Description
pp.193.paperback edition.”Most of Alberta’s settlements, stations and post offices were named by the second decade of the 20th century. Many of these names have disappeared from the map because of “progress” and urbanization. Over 75 of those place names were chosen in honor of or in connection with men and women of the pen (or brush) – poets, novelists, historians, jurists, philosophers, politicians, scientists, dramatists, artists, composers, clergy, educators, and journalists, among others. Our pioneers chose well in the naming of their communities. Those names remind us of those energetic and talented people of the pen. This study is one attempt to preserve that heritage. Obviously some of those pens were more productive and influential than others”
